Legal anti-speed camera and police detection equipment for motorcyclists in the Netherlands

Overview

For motorcyclists who want to keep their driving license and avoid fines, there are several legal solutions available in the Netherlands that warn of speed checks and the presence of emergency services such as police vehicles. Below is an overview of the most important systems, their operation and their legal status.

1. Stinger systems

What is it?
Stinger offers advanced detection systems that can analyze radar signals and warn of speed checks, fixed speed cameras and section checks. The Stinger Card and Stinger VIEW are popular models that are specially designed for motorcyclists.

Operation and options:

Detects mobile radar checks, fixed speed camera locations and section checks.

Can be expanded with modules for laser and emergency service detection.

The systems are undetectable by police equipment that hunts for radar detectors.

Legal status:

The device itself (the hardware) is legal in the Netherlands, because it is officially a ‘car computer’ and not a radar detector.

However, the use of the ‘radar alarming’ software (which actively warns of radars) is prohibited. The devices are therefore supplied without this software as standard.

Users can download the software at their own risk, for example for use abroad where this is permitted. The software can easily be removed upon returning to the Netherlands.

2. Target Blu Eye

What is it?
Target Blu Eye is a system that warns of the proximity of emergency services (such as police, ambulance and fire brigade) by scanning the C2000 network (TETRA). It does not detect speed checks, but signals the presence of vehicles that are logged into the emergency services network.

Operation and options:

Detects both conspicuous and inconspicuous police vehicles, as long as they communicate via the C2000 network.

Specially modified versions are available for motorcycles, with a waterproof display and bright LED warning.

Does not warn of all ambulances or police vehicles if they are not logged into the network.

Legal status:

Blu Eye is completely legal in the Netherlands and most other European countries, because it only receives passive signals and is not a radar detector.

Attempts by governments to ban it have so far been unsuccessful, partly because the system cannot be detected and has no active radar functions.

3. Other systems

Lasertrack anti laser:

An anti-laser system that works as a parking sensor, but also warns of laser guns in time. This system is also legal, as long as it is not used as a 'laser jammer'.
